Malamalama Waldorf School is a special place where beautiful children learn and play surrounded by laughter, love and a deep appreciation for life. Malamalama Waldorf School strives to cultivate in each child a love of learning while fostering imagination, building healthy relationships, and honoring the unique spirit of the developing child.
Malamalama means "Light of Knowledge" in the Hawaiian language. And we are fortunate indeed, as a community, to offer a place where childhood wonder is revered and children are free to grow, learn and shine their light. (John Pena, MWS parent)

Why Waldorf? Waldorf Education is based on a profound understanding of human development, providing a detailed, richly artistic curriculum. Waldorf education cultivates social and emotional intelligence while connecting children to nature and igniting their passion for lifelong learning. Waldorf Education is the fastest growing educational movement in the world.
“Joy and happiness in living, a love of all existence, a power and energy for work … the need for imagination, a sense of truth and a feeling of responsibility, these are the forces which are the very nerve of education.”
-Rudolf Steiner

Thanks to a generous donation form the Samuel N. and Mary Castle foundation, the Malamalama Waldorf School Kinderhale playground has received a new swing set and playhouse, and there are more improvements to come. We appreciate this foundation's generous support.
This spring, Malamalama Waldorf School received a donation of two light poles, light fixtures and electrical wiring to illuminate the parking lot. The entire project was supported by Big Island Electrical Service, LLC who coordinated donations, organized transport of materials, as well as, provided the labor for erecting the poles and wiring the fixtures. I & R Utility Line Excavating also supported this project by digging the holes for the poles. A special thanks to parent volunteer, Tabetha Block, for spearheading the entire project.
